You don’t need a Hop card to ride TriMet — you can simply tap the green Hop reader as you board with your phone or contactless credit/debit card to instantly pay the $2.80 Adult fare. And with Hop, instead of buying passes in advance, you earn them as you go. All you have to do is ride!
But if you want to use our reduced Honored Citizen or Youth fares, you’ll need to get a Hop card:
- Get a reloadable plastic Hop card at the grocery store. Cards cost $3 and you can choose from Adult (18-64), Honored Citizen (65+ or Medicare) or Youth (7-17, high school/GED). Honored Citizen and Youth fares are reduced fares (half the price of Adult fares), so proof of eligibility is required when boarding. Register and load money on your card at myhopcard.com or load money on your card at the grocery store.
- You must apply for an Honored Citizen photo ID Hop card in advance if you have a disability, or if you qualify based on income or military status.
On the bus, you can also buy a ticket as you board using cash. Tell the operator whether you want a 2½-Hour Ticket or a Day Pass, then insert coins and bills into the farebox (exact change only) and grab your ticket from the printer on your right.
At the ticket machines at MAX and WES stations, you can buy 2½-hour and 1-day Hop tickets for Adult, Honored Citizen or Youth riders. The machines at MAX stations accept credit/debit cards or cash. Ticket machines at WES stations accept cards only.
