- At the ticket machines at MAX and WES stations you can buy 2½-Hour and 1-Day Hop tickets for Adult (18–64), Honored Citizen (65+ or Medicare) or Youth (7–17, high school/GED) riders. The machines at MAX stations accept credit/debit cards or cash. Ticket machines at WES stations accept cards only. Honored Citizen and Youth fares are reduced fares (half the price of Adult fares) so proof of eligibility is required when boarding.
- Hop tickets are single-use paper tickets with electronics inside. Tap your ticket on the green Hop reader before boarding. The screen will show a confirmation that you paid your fare and you will hear an audible chime. You’re good to go!
Your ticket is valid for either 2½ hours or all day (until 3 a.m.), starting at the time of purchase. Tickets must be used immediately and cannot be saved for use at a future time. During this time you can board any combination of buses, MAX trains or Portland Streetcar to complete your trip. Remember to tap the Hop reader every time you board a bus or train (including when you transfer), as your tap is your proof of payment.
Ticket machines can’t be used to buy or reload plastic Hop cards, but you can use the Hop website, app or phone hotline, or reload at any Hop retail location.
