We accept any bankcard (Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express) showing the contactless symbol. Just tap your card on the Hop reader as you board to instantly pay the $2.80 Adult fare. The screen will show a confirmation that you paid your fare and you will hear an audible chime. You’re good to go!
Good to know
- Your fare is valid for 2½ hours, during which time you can board any combination of buses, MAX, WES or Portland Streetcar to complete your trip.
- With Hop, you don’t buy passes in advance, you earn them as you go. After paying for two rides ($5.60), you automatically earn a Day Pass — which means you can ride as much as you want for the rest of the day until 3 a.m.
- After paying for $100 worth of rides in a calendar month (that’s 36 trips, or about 18 days of commuting), you automatically earn a Month Pass — which means the rest of your rides are free. Ride as much as you want. You’ll never pay more than $100 in a month.
- In order to earn Day and Month passes, remember to tap with the same card every time.
- Even if you’ve earned a pass, you still need to tap every time you board or transfer. You won’t be charged, but your tap is your proof of payment.
If you want to use reduced fares for seniors, youth, people with disabilities, people who qualify based on income, veterans and active-duty military, you’ll need to get a Hop card.
