Yes — tap your card or phone on the Hop reader every time you board a bus or train, including when you transfer. You won’t necessarily be charged every time you tap, but it validates your fare and serves as your proof of payment. Unlike other transit systems, you don’t have to tap off at your destination.
Fare inspectors randomly check for valid fare, so be ready to show your Hop card, credit card or phone. They may also ask to see ID for proof of eligibility if you’re using an Honored Citizen or Youth fare.
