There are two ways to pay with your phone:
OPTION 1: Use a credit/debit card in your phone’s mobile wallet (Adult fare only).
This is the easiest way to pay, and there’s no Hop card needed! It works with Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay.
- Make sure you’ve selected the payment card you want to use in your mobile wallet, then tap your phone on the green Hop reader as you board to pay the $2.80 Adult fare.
- The screen will show a confirmation that you paid your fare and you will hear an audible chime. You’re good to go!
Good to know:
- With Hop, instead of buying passes in advance, you earn them as you go. After paying for two rides ($5.60), you automatically earn a Day Pass — which means you can ride for free for the rest of the day until 3 a.m.
- After paying for $100 worth of rides in a calendar month (that’s 36 trips, or about 18 days of commuting), you automatically earn a Month Pass — which means you can ride for free for the rest of the month.
- In order to earn Day and Month passes, remember to tap with the same card/device every time.
- Even if you’ve earned a pass, you still need to tap every time you board or transfer. You won’t be charged, but your tap is your proof of payment.
- In order to use our reduced fares, you’ll need to get a Hop card or virtual Hop card.

OPTION 2: Use a virtual Hop card in your phone’s mobile wallet.
With a Virtual Hop card, you have access to reduced Honored Citizen and Youth fares.
- Download the Hop app and follow the instructions for adding a virtual Hop card to your mobile wallet.
- Tap your phone on the Hop reader as you board.
- The screen will show a confirmation that you paid your fare and you will hear an audible chime. You’re good to go!
Good to know:
- With Hop, instead of buying passes in advance, you earn them as you go. You’ll automatically earn a Day Pass after paying for two trips in a day with the same card — which means you can ride as much as you want until the end of the service day (3 a.m.).
- You’ll also automatically earn a Month Pass after paying $100 (Adult) or $28 (Honored Citizen and Youth) in a calendar month — which means you can ride free for the rest of the month.
- In order to earn Day and Month passes, remember to tap with the same card/device every time.
- Even if you’ve earned a pass, you still need to tap every time you board or transfer. You won’t be charged, but your tap is your proof of payment.
